I have experience training, managing and working with paid library staff as well as parent and student volunteers. Also experienced in training Student Teachers.
Experience with managing a very busy, engaging and well loved library. Each day starts with professional time when teachers can visit the library, I am able to help find materials and answer questions during this time. Then students have their own morning book exchange. After morning announcements there are two classes being run simultaneously for each grade 1-6. This is accomplished using both the computer lab and library space for book exchange and lessons that are designed and written by the librarian. The day never ends as the library reaches beyond the end of the school day using its website and Social Media with students, parents, staff and community members.
Sometimes teaching the big kids in a school can be just as fun as teaching the little ones. I have experience designing and presenting training for teachers and staff especially in terms of technology. I have also offered classes for community members that have been well reviewed. Through my work for the PA School Librarian's Association I also have experience presenting at conferences, and working collaboratively with other librarians.
I LOVE this part of the job! In my attempt to make every student a lifelong learner and book lover I believe that libraries should offer engaging dynamic programs to meet these goals. In the past I have worked with the local public library to offer book and movie nights for books such as The Polar Express and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. I have also offered book clubs and currently am working to offer students an online book club, code club and a Summer Sandbox Challenge where we will play with gadgets, toys and online programs all summer long.
Skills and expertise required for purchasing, weeding, circulating and managing a large school collection including print and digital materials. Also experienced with fundraising, book fairs, grant writing and Memorial Books. Expert user of Follett Destiny Library Manager software and experienced with other library management systems.
I have experience writing both library and computer curricula. In addition I have developed clear procedures and policies, including written policies, for materials circulation, collection development, challenging materials, memorial books, Internet Acceptable Use Policies and more.
I am a very active member of the school and community. I participate in several school and district committees, serving as a trusted expert for libraries and technology. I also volunteer during my spare time and try to act as a positive role model for students taking an interest in not only their academics but their extra curricular activities as well.
